Reporting Live From Shanghai

The Intelligence Edge Your Supply Chain Is Missing.

I walk real Chinese factory floors every week and tell you what Alibaba won't — which “factories” are traders in disguise, where they hide the margin, and what their “yes” actually means before you wire a dime.

China Factories Can Legally Keep Your Mold

China Factories Can Legally Keep Your Mold

You paid $30,000 for the mold that makes your product, and it sits on a factory floor in China. An invoice proves you paid — it does not prove you own the steel. Here are the three things that keep the mold yours.

Track Record

Proof lives on the trade desk.

Real audits, contracts and sourcing — delivered for real buyers. The full record, with the cases, lives on GZ Visions, my trade desk.

What buyers have bought: China trade contracts, on-site factory audits and verification, factory visits and sourcing support, and digital sourcing tools used by importers in the United States and Germany.

In hardware, we often say that relationships are the foundation, not just a transaction. Cengiz completely embodies this philosophy. He has an incredible knack for bridging the gap between Western buyers and complex manufacturing landscapes. If you are a brand looking to qualify factories before wiring capital, source verified partners in China, or secure heavy industrial equipment, Cengiz is your guy. He doesn't just make introductions; he builds the trust and oversight needed to actually get things built right. I couldn't recommend him more highly.

I bought one of the contracts and used it directly with my factory in China. It saved me from paying a lawyer close to a thousand dollars for something fairly basic — and it covered exactly the points I needed protected. Two months later I'm still working with the same supplier, and everything runs smoothly. For any Western buyer who wants real protection without the big legal bill, this is worth it. Thank you to The Factory Floor.

Ask the Floor — Free

Your Supplier Won't Tell You. I Will.

Suppliers, quotes, contracts, tariffs, quality — ask me the thing you can't ask them. Free, anonymous, and answered by a human who's been on those floors for 25 years. Not a bot. Not an assistant. Me.

suppliers

How do I know if my supplier is a real factory or just a trader?

You have to check where they actually make it. Ask who does the molding, who runs the production. Sometimes the company you are talking to is a third party, and your product is made somewhere else, not in that factory. A real maker can show you the line. A trader gets uncomfortable when you ask to see it.

sourcing

My supplier wants the deposit sent to a personal bank account, is this normal?

No, you do not transfer to a personal account. If the money goes to a personal account, there is no official invoice, no fapiao (the government tax invoice). And if there is no fapiao, then if something goes wrong later, you cannot use it against them officially. You have nothing to stand on. Keep it company to company, always.

tariffs

What hidden costs sit between the factory price and my door?

There are always costs in between. The factory price is never the final price. Ask exactly what is included. If you want it delivered a certain way, that is another cost. If you want a proper invoice, you pay tax on it. Freight, duty, customs, all of it sits between the quote and your door. Ask before, not after.

In China, trust moves before price. The buyer who shows up vague gets the polite brush-off. The one who shows up specific, serious, and in person gets the real number. Same factory. Same product. Two completely different deals.

About

I've Been Inside the Factories. Not Just the Boardrooms.

Born in Germany to Turkish parents, raised in Turkey from the age of six. Ten years in the United States, fifteen in Brazil. Today, on the ground in Shanghai.

I'm a negotiator — it's the only thing I've ever been. I grew up in my family's hospitality business, where you learn to read people before you sell to them. I went on to lead as Commercial Director — a 36-person sales team inside a 150-person company with seven retail operations — and built import-export lines out of Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Twenty-five years across those tables taught me what no MBA can: every culture negotiates differently — the German, the Saudi, the Indian, the Chinese — and the deal goes to whoever understands that first.

I built The Factory Floor because American executives make seven-figure sourcing decisions on information that's months old and an ocean away. I don't. I read the floor in real time — and every Monday, I hand it to you.
