The Supplier Shortlist Sprint
You brief your product. In ten business days I hand you three verified factories in your category, with a written verdict on which one to call first and why. One flat price. No retainer.
How do you find a real manufacturer in China for your product?
Do not gamble on the first page of a B2B search. Brief exactly what you are making, then verify each candidate's business license, real production capability, and export history before you share a single drawing — and compare quotes on the same spec so you are not weighing a factory against a trader. That vetting is the whole job; the Sprint does it for you and hands you three verified factories in 10 business days.
$1,997 flat. One number, no tiers. The buyer pays me. The factory never does.
You do not have a supplier problem. You have a shortlist problem.
China makes about 28 percent of the world's manufacturing value [ChinaPower Project, CSIS, citing World Bank data, 2023]. For almost any product you can draw, hundreds of factories will say yes. That is the trap. You search a directory and you get a wall of listings. Half of them are trading companies dressed up as factories. And you cannot tell the real maker from the middleman until your money is already moving.
I have spent 25 years on factory floors. I live in Shanghai. I source and ship product myself, so I read a supplier the way you read your own numbers. The Supplier Shortlist Sprint is that work sold as one clean job. You tell me what you are making. Inside ten business days I come back with three factories that are real, that can actually build your product, and a plain written verdict on which one I would call first if it were my own money. No retainer. No cut from the factory. One price, and you own the result.
How the Sprint works. Five steps. Ten business days. One report.
1. You brief the product. A short form and one call. Product, target specs, order quantity, target landed cost, any certifications you need (CE, FDA, UL, food-contact, whatever applies), and the two or three things you will not give up. A drawing, a sample, or a competitor's item makes the search sharper. If all you have is an idea, I have built a shortlist from less.
2. I build the long list. I work the Chinese-language sources, not just the English directories every buyer sees, plus my own contacts built over 25 years. I separate the factories from the trading companies right here, because a trading company on your first call is the most common way buyers overpay.
3. I check each one. For every factory that makes the shortlist I pull the business license and read it. I confirm the registered scope really covers your product. I check the company is in good standing. I confirm the plant does the process your product needs instead of passing it to someone else. This is desk work: public registry, documents, capability checks, done remotely. A physical audit of the winning factory is a separate service, and I tell you when I think you need one.
4. I compare the quotes. I go to the shortlisted factories as a serious buyer. I ask each one to quote against your brief on the same terms. Then I lay the numbers side by side, unit price, tooling, MOQ, lead time, and payment terms, so you are comparing like for like instead of three quotes written three different ways.
5. I write the verdict. You get three verified candidates and a written call: which factory I would place the first order with, which is the backup, which is the price check, and the reasons and risks behind each one. Delivered inside ten business days from the day your brief is complete.
Exactly what you receive
One written report, plus the raw evidence behind it, covering three verified factories in your category.
- •Three shortlisted factories, each confirmed as a real maker of your product, not a reseller.
- •A verification summary for each factory: business license pulled and read, registered scope matched to your product, company standing confirmed, and a note on which steps happen in-house and which get subcontracted.
- •A side-by-side quote comparison on your brief: unit price, tooling or mold cost, minimum order quantity, lead time, and payment terms, lined up so the columns actually match.
- •Factory profile notes: location, rough size and age, export experience, and any certifications that matter to your market.
- •My written verdict: the one I would order from first, the backup, the price check, and the reasons and risks behind each, in plain words.
- •The direct contact for each factory, so you carry the conversation yourself with no dependence on me.
What this is not. It is not an on-site audit. It is not a promise that a factory will perform on an order I was not part of placing. It is the honest, verified starting point that turns a wall of listings into three real names and a clear first move.
Who this is for
This is built for the buyer who wants the right factory found, not a relationship managed.
- •The founder or brand taking a product to China for the first time, who cannot yet tell a factory from a trading company and cannot afford to learn it the expensive way.
- •The importer who needs a fresh, verified alternative to a supplier who is slipping on price, quality, or lead time.
- •The operator moving away from a single source, who wants a clean second and third option in their category.
- •Anyone sitting on a stack of directory listings with no way to rank them and no interest in a monthly retainer.
It is a poor fit if you already know the exact factory you want and only need it audited. Then go straight to Factory Verification. And if your first question is whether a supplier already in front of you is safe to trust, start with the Supplier Risk Diagnostic instead.
How I get paid, and the conflict rule
One line, printed plainly, because it is the whole point. The factory never pays me. Only the buyer pays me. The price is 1,997 US dollars, flat. No tiers. No per-factory add-ons. No commission, kickback, or finder's fee from any supplier on your shortlist, ever. That is what keeps the verdict yours instead of theirs. An agent paid by the factory is paid to place you. I am paid by you to find you the right maker and tell you the truth about it.
The conflict rule. Any factory I hold a business relationship with is either disclosed to you in writing or kept off your shortlist entirely. You will always know exactly where I stand with every name I put in front of you.
The price covers the remote desk work: sourcing, license and capability checks, quote comparison, and the written verdict. If the winning factory needs an in-person visit before you commit real money, I quote that separately at my verification tiers, and I tell you plainly when the order size justifies it and when it does not.
Questions buyers ask me
What exactly do I get for the $1,997?
Three verified candidate factories in your product category, delivered inside ten business days. For each one: a business-license check, a confirmation the factory actually makes your product in-house, and a normalized quote. On top of that, a written verdict naming which one I would order from first, the backup, the price check, and the reasons and risks behind each. Plus the direct contact for every factory, so you carry the conversation forward yourself.
How is this different from just searching a directory myself?
A directory gives you listings. It does not tell you which listings are real factories and which are trading companies. It does not tell you whether the business license covers your product, or whether the plant does your process in-house or quietly passes it to someone else. I do that filtering in the Chinese-language sources most buyers never see, and I hand you three names I have actually checked, ranked, with a reason for the ranking.
Do you take any commission or fee from the factory?
No. The factory never pays me. Only you pay me, and only the flat $1,997. There is no kickback or finder's fee from any supplier on your shortlist. Any factory I hold a business relationship with is disclosed to you in writing or kept off the list entirely. That independence is the reason the verdict is worth having.
Does the Sprint include a factory visit or audit?
No. The Sprint is remote desk work: sourcing, license and capability checks, quote comparison, and the written verdict. An on-site audit of the winning factory is a separate service, quoted at my verification tiers. I tell you plainly when your order size justifies a visit and when it does not.
What if you can only find two good factories, or none are a strong fit?
I tell you that, in writing, instead of padding the list to hit a number. If your product is unusual and three genuinely qualified makers do not exist, you get the ones that do, plus an honest read on why the field is thin and what your real options are. You are paying for the truth, not for three names on a page.
How fast is it, and what do you need from me to start?
Ten business days from the day your brief is complete. To start I need a short intake form and one call covering your product, target specs, order quantity, target landed cost, required certifications, and the things you will not give up. A drawing, a sample, or a competitor's product makes the search sharper, but it is not required.
What happens after you hand over the shortlist?
You own it. You have three verified factories, a ranked verdict, and the direct contacts, so you carry the negotiation yourself with no dependence on me. If you want the winning factory audited on-site before you wire a deposit, that is Factory Verification. If a supplier lands in front of you later and you want a fast read on whether they are safe, that is the Supplier Risk Diagnostic.
Which service should I start with if I am not sure?
If you have no factory yet, start here. If you already have one specific factory and need it checked before you commit, start with Factory Verification. If you have a supplier in front of you and just want to know whether they are trustworthy, start with the Supplier Risk Diagnostic. When in doubt, book a call and I will point you to the right door.
